Role of Architecture in Current Economic Climate

In the recent months, the economy has taken a big hit and fears of a long recession have been growing. In this keynote, we will be taking a “glass half full” approach and discuss how architects can reinforce the value they bring to their company, particularly in this difficult climate. Examples of what Microsoft is doing or has done will also be discussed.

Analysis and Architecture: Perfect Together

This session is intended to act as a starting point for an exploration of how analysts and analysis relate to the work of the architect. We will look at the kinds of challenges and influence Enterprise Architects can have on how portfolios of projects are defined, looking for consistency, reuse, etc. We will explore how Solution Architects leverage their own analysis skills, and how their technology experience can be shared and leveraged by those tasked with defining what a system is supposed to do.

Matt Hessinger; Hessinger Consulting

Rationalizing the Emerging Web

The Emerging Web is an ecosystem that is inundated with buzz words (Web 2.0, Web 3.0, the Semantic Web, RIAs etc), technologies, and a multitude of opinions about the current and future states. This session will present Business and Solution Architecture oriented perspectives of the Emerging Web in an attempt to rationalize and address related opportunities & implications for consumers, enterprises, and social/consumer service providers.

Karthik Ravindran;  Microsoft Corporation

Architectural Principles for Software + Services

Every architect is exposed to different acronyms, tools, and methodologies. SOA. SaaS. Cloud Computing. Which ones are right for your organization? Which ones are going to deliver value for your projects? This session will take a look at the current state of the industry and ask the question, “What would happen if we could use just the best part of each?” As we do, we'll introduce a new term called Software + Services, an approach that has the potential for changing the architectural thinking behind tomorrow’s applications.

Certification for Architects

As the “job role” architect moves from a role to a profession the value and issue of certification will drive many discussions and changes. As it sits today in a “maturing” IT landscape, how we build and leverage certifications will determine both our path towards a profession as well as the simple clarification of our profession.
