&lt;p&gt;I would point out that Amazon get&amp;#39;s a little shortchanged in the comparisons. We use the queue (SQS), replication, CDN (CloudFront) and DB services (SimpleDB) as part of Amazon and it&amp;#39;s a lot closer to Azure than just the barebones metal etc.&lt;/p&gt;

I think you hit the nail on the head. the roles listed above have a focus/singularity in what they do and what they deliver, and well they should. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The IT architect must absolutely think about the enterprise space using 3-d glasses while the person implementing (designer, developer, systems engineer, network engineer) must wear 2-d glasses to be effective. I think this begs for guidance similar to Myers-Briggs guidance for personalities with approaches to understand, communicate, and work with people from the other arena. Sensitivity training? &lt;/p&gt;
