Solutions aren't solved by technology, they are solved by people.

Solutions aren't solved by technology, they are solved by people.  Technology is just a tool people use.

When a solution fails and we blame technology, nobody wins. When a solution fails and people take responsibility to learn, adjust, and realign, we win. Therefore, seek the tool (business process, architecture, technology, etc.) which will best align with your business to empower people.

Solutions don't have to be SOLVED - probems do. Or Issues. Or opportunities.

The question at hand is what solves problems/issues/opportunities? "Solution" is just a concept, a generalization of a package that usually contains the right mix of people, process and technology.

At the heart of good architecture should be to seek the correct problems and find the best solution at hand. (best means that it is the right compromise of circumstances, restrictions, tools at hand and visions)

My 5c I guess...

I think that people composing the team and their skills are an important aspect you've to consider when you search for a solution to a particular issue/problem. In general you've to identify the right trade-off that makes you able to reach the goals with people you work with using a set of technologies. Choosing a solution that doesn't fit your team in general is never a good approach. "Ideal" is a thing, "possible" is another... IMHO!

Totally agree with Miha; problems are the things that end up getting solved and solutions are the composition of the tactics and resources required to do so.  Maybe both the problem and the solution should be thought of as separate from the solving process?  In as much as we solve the problem in our minds first, then we apply the solution we envisioned using a combination of technology, process, and politics.  So solutions are executed using technology, but the actual problem solving is the selection and application of the technology by humans (or Jim).  So who pounds in the nail, that hammer or the one holding it?

Effective problem / challenge analysis plus experience, (lots of it across many industries) plus communication, effective buy in and elegant simple design = a solution that will be adopted, embraced and used!  This ain't rocket science folks!
